State Department Employee Retention

Context

This project was completed in April 2024 for a state department within Florida. I along with a team of FSU students looked into a concern the division directors are currently attempting to address, employee retention. This project was completed for a class assignment, however, the division directors expressed an interest in implementing any solutions the team may recommend.

Conditions

I worked on the project with four others within a span of three months. In the three months, we created a timeline for each step of the process addressing their concerns. We completed an analysis of the work environment and interviewed employees and team members to gather data and identify gaps. The directors also provided reports and additional relevant information to contribute to the analysis. With the data gathered, our team analyzed and identified protentional gaps that may be addressed. Based on the knowledge of limitations within the environment, we weighed the feasibility of each solution and presented the most feasible solutions to the department directors.

Scope

At the end of this project, we identified four gaps and solutions that would address each problem. We compiled our findings in a report and briefing presentation which were presented to the division directors. The report provided would be referenced and utilized by the directors during the division’s ongoing employee retention initiative.   

Role

In our team, each person was assigned a role. For the entirety of the project I assumed role of client liaison. I took on the tasks of completing interviews, observing the work environment and gathering other relevant data for the team to analyze. I also relayed any questions or concerns between the two parties. In addition to the requirements for this integral role, I assisted in compiling and displaying the gathered information in the report and in the briefing presentation. I reviewed and approved each iteration of reports for accuracy, relevance, and feasibility until completion.
